LIBERTY — The bar area at El Potro Mexican Cafe, 116 Stewart Court, was full Valentine’s evening, but not just for diners seeking a special dinner. Jackson County Legislator Manny Abarca organized a rally there before the dinner rush. The rally was to support the Latino and immigrant families in Liberty and elsewhere in Clay County after last Friday’s raid by Homeland Security agents.

SMITHVILLE — Eagle Heights Elementary art teacher Andrea Aeschliman has been named Missouri Art Education Association’s 2025 Elementary Art Educator of the Year. The award is based on standards set by the National Art Education Association, contributions to the Missouri Art Education Association and the impact art education has on the school and community.

LIBERTY — High school senior William Duncan, a member of Scout Troop 376, built a new shelter in Ruth Moore Park as part of his Eagle Scout project. He started in June and finished on Dec. 31, 2024.

LIBERTY — As the Kansas City Chiefs chase history when they play the Philadelphia Eagles in Super Bowl LIX, Liberty football coach Chad Frigon and his family will be in New Orleans to watch it happen.
