Leslie Marie Oberbroeckling-Stevenson, 61, of Pleasant Valley, MO, passed away unexpectedly on July 27, 2024. While her departure was untimely, we find solace in knowing that God has called upon another true spokesperson, one as kind-hearted, compassionate, and unforgettable as Leslie herself.
James “Jim” Everett Fisher, II, 66, of Kansas City, passed away Thursday, August 1, 2024, at Liberty Hospital. Jim was born on January 17, 1958, in Smithville, the son of James Everett Fisher, Sr. and Jacqueline (Kist) Fisher. Unfortunately, his father died in an automobile accident prior to his birth. Survivors include: his mother, Jackie Butch of Kansas City; two aunts, Michele Kist of Polo and Jerre (Stan) VanSooy of Leawood, KS; and several cousins also survive. He was preceded in death by his father and his uncle, Larry Kist. Jim was raised and educated in the Smithville area, where he attended high school. From an early age, he developed a deep love for the great outdoors. By the age of 10, he could identify many birds by their calls and name all the different trees in the area. While he appreciated all aspects of nature, his true passion was duck hunting, a hobby he pursued avidly throughout his life. Jim’s career was marked by his dedication and enthusiasm. He spent his working years as a salesman for JR Electric in Liberty. Later, he achieved his dream job as a salesman at Cabela’s, where he could share his love for the outdoors with others. Jim will be dearly missed by his family and friends, who will always remember his adventurous spirit and his passion for nature. The family suggests memorial contributions be made to either St. Jude’s Hospital for Children or Grace Episcopal Church in Liberty. Bernice Marie May, 91, of Kearney, Missouri, passed away peacefully on Sunday, July 28, 2024, at Aspire Senior Living of Excelsior Springs, Missouri, surrounded by her loving family. Born on May 1, 1933, in Garden Plains, Kansas, Bernice was a proud alumna of St. Mary’s Aleppo Catholic School. She began her career as an aide at St. Francis Hospital in Wichita, Kansas. Known for her vivacious spirit, Bernice enjoyed dressing up and dancing on Saturday nights, where she met Larry May, the love of her life. The couple married on April 27, 1957, and together they raised eight children. As a dedicated homemaker, Bernice also worked as a house cleaner to support her family. From 1988 to 2001, she was employed at Mr. Dell’s Foods before retiring to devote herself to her greatest joycaring for her grandchildren. Bernice had a unique gift for connecting with people. She had a remarkable ability to engage with others, often leaving them with a smile and a new friend. Her culinary talents were unmatched, with her homemade bread and cinnamon rolls becoming family favorites. Her compassion and willingness to help others were truly inspiring. Her deep faith was evident through her constant companionship with her rosary and her dedication to prayer. Bernice is survived by her seven children: Mary Barker, John (Carolyn) May, Mark (Donna) May, Mike (Michelle) May, Loretta (David) Brewer, Rosie (Patrick) Smith, and Joe (Tricia) May; thirteen grandchildren: Jackie, Caitlin, Shannon, Matthew, Joshua, Austin, Meghan, Anna, Regan, Dylan, Cabot, James, Charlotte; and five great-grandchildren: Jordyn, Jenna, Ava, Jaxson, and Dean. She is preceded in death by her beloved husband Valery “Larry” May, her son Tom May, her parents Rose and John Wolke, and her siblings Dolores Adrian, Marlene Jansen, JoAnn Mainz, and Harold Wolke. Ariane Nichelle Bohi, 40, of Kansas City, MO. passed away July 23, 2024, at the University of Kansas Hospital. Visitation will be held 10-11 am, Saturday, July 27 followed by funeral services at New Direction Church, 21209 NE 188th St, Holt, Mo. internment at Oakland Cemetery, Holt, Mo. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to the Bohi children c/o Public Safety Credit Union. Ariane was born August 9, 1983, in Smithville, MO. She graduated from Kearney High School, later receiving her bachelor’s degree in business from Park University. She worked for the last 13 years in the insurance field. She loved traveling and spending time with her family. She was an amazing wife and mother of two beautiful children. She is preceded in death by both maternal and paternal grandparents. Survivors included her children Bentley and Cael and her husband, Derek; her parents, Gary and Barbara Pfaff; brothers, Sean and Chad Pfaff; sisters, Candace Smith and Nyree Howard and numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends. James (Jim) E. Maples III, surrounded by his family, went to be the Lord on July 17, 2024. Jim was born on October 5, 1959 in Miami, Oklahoma to his parents James E. Maple Jr. and Phyllis Eloise Boyd Coons. He lived in Coffeyville, Kansas until moving to Liberty, Missouri to work at the Ford Motor Company. James retired in 2007, after 30 years with the company. He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Annette Maples; three children, Brandon R. Watson of Dearing, Kansas, James E. Maple IV (Jessica) of Lathrop Missouri and Sarah L. Hyatte of Smithville, Missouri; his mother Eloise Coons of Coffeyville, brother Ron Maples (Sheila) of St. Paul, Kansas; two sisters, Venice Hilton (Bob) of Coffeyville, Kansas, Shannon Andres (Jeff) of Wichita, Kansas; a half brother, James Clark; 10 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren.
