Linda Louise Lowe Askren, age 75, died Tuesday, October 22, 2024, after a brief illness, at University of Missouri Hospital.
She is survived by her husband Ken of 46 years; her two daughters, Jennie (Nathan) Rumble and Elizabeth (Ryan) Tate; grandchildren Mason, Gavin, Grayson, Bryn and Haden; sister, Sue (Chuck) Franklin; nephew, Will and nieces, Sarah, Nancy, Karen and Donna.
Linda is preceded in death by her parents, Harold and Virginia Lowe and sister and brother-in-law, Carol and Dean Burgess.
For those who knew Linda, they would all say she was a lovely, loving person, with some saying she was a saint for being married to Ken. She was active in the Friends of Historic Boonville, Boonville Habitat for Humanity, Kiwanis, First Christian Church of Boonville, Broadway Christian Church of Columbia. She was a founding committee member of the FOHB Big Muddy Folk Festival and past chair of the FOHB Missouri River Festival of the Arts.
Linda was a graduate of Central Washington State College with a Bachelor of Arts degree, the University of Missouri in Columbia with a Master of Education degree and State Farm Community College with an Associate’s degree in Court Reporting.
Linda served as Director of the Missouri Protection and Advocacy Service for the disabled, Director of Cooper County HDC, and Director of the Cooper County Mid Missouri Mental Health Center office. She spent 19 years as a court stenographer, followed by 16 years as the Office Administrative Assistant for the Askren Law Office, retiring in 2022.
Linda loved to travel and plan summer vacations for the family. She also enjoyed international travel with her most memorable trips being safaris in Tanzania and Kenya. She enjoyed boating and fishing on the Lake of the Ozarks and for the last 14 years at Truman Lake. She enjoyed needle point and was an avid reader, having been a member of a Boonville book club for 42 years. In her family, she is best known for her holiday pies, especially cherry and pumpkin. Linda loved her grandchildren, and we know she will miss seeing them grow into adulthood.
A Visitation will be held, Friday, November 1, 2024, from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm at Howard Funeral Home in Boonville, MO. A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, November 2, 2024, at 11:00 am at the Broadway Christian Church in Columbia, MO. Inurnment will follow at the Broadway Christian Church Memorial Gardens.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to Habitat for Humanity, Friends of Historic Boonville Endowment, Friends Helping Friends Food Bank or the Alzheimer’s Association.
